It's a New Year! LD is Checking In...

Looking back + planning ahead

For me, it’s always filled with a practice of reflection on the year behind me and a spirit of hope for the year ahead. While January is still in sight, I wanted to share this reflection and hope with you, my LD community, via the RE-launch of LD’s newsletter. A monthly, short and sweet share on ways and things that can support you and/or your organization as you continue to grow your capacity and practice for liberation.

Before getting too deep into what I hope for LD in 2022, I pause in deep gratitude for what 2021 brought.

Huge thanks to LD Contributors, Abby, Diana, Kelli, and Nita, for their role in making this happen!

We also secured a trademark and launched a new client onboarding system.

On a more personal note, I officially started my book journey and joined an author’s program (fingers crossed for a winter 2022 publication date), and also delivered a keynote speaker on what it means to intentionally envision and plan a liberated future.

Seeds that Liberate Scholarship (STLS)

Of all of the things 2021 allowed, the one that brings me most joy is that we awarded our first ever Seeds that Liberate Scholarship (STLS) to Chicago-based filmmaker, Brianna Clay.

STLS was launched last year as a way for LD to play an investing role in the liberation of black women. It is awarded to a black woman who has defined what liberation means to her and is in active pursuit of it. STLS funds a specific project or effort that is clearly connected to how the recipient defines her liberation.

"As an independent filmmaker, it is often difficult to find funding for your films and even more challenging to find someone to invest in your dream. I quickly realized true freedom and liberation started with investing in myself. For me, liberation means betting on myself with no limitations."

Learn more about STLS in future newsletters, including how it is contributing to what Brianna calls “A Storyteller’s Liberation Journey.” Learn more about Brianna on her website.

Looking Forward

Looking forward to 2022, I am excited to launch LD’s first online course, expand the STLS Program and continue to refine how to best serve and support our clients as we all define and pursue what liberation truly means to each of us.

THANK YOU for being a part of the Liberated Development community. We are because you are!

Here’s to a more liberated 2022!
